FSOC – Run from what’s comfortable – forget safety

Posted on October 16, 2020 by Jamie Smart
In this week’s shot of clarity, we’re going to start with my favourite Rumi quote. I used part of it as the epigraph for “Inspired Action”, the final chapter of my first book, CLARITY: Clear Mind, Better Performance, Bigger Results.

Here’s the full quote (it still kind of takes my breath away, and gives me a hint of vertigo when I read it):

Run from what’s comfortable.
Forget safety.
Live where you fear to live.
Destroy your reputation.
Be notorious.
I have tried prudent planning long enough.
From now on I’ll be mad.

The reason I used it for the final chapter of CLARITY is this…

The quote speaks to courage, the willingness to follow your heart, no matter where it leads.

I love that.

Here’s that final (very short) chapter in full (©2012 Jamie Smart, published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd).

Chapter 24 – Inspired Action

“Forget safety. Live where you fear to live. Destroy your reputation. Be notorious.” – Rumi, Poet

Inspiration often shows up when you’re already doing something else…

So…
Show up…
Grow a pair…
Get in the game…
Stay in the game…
Step into the unknown…
And keep experimenting…
Pause and reflect from time to time…
Discover your “how” as you take the next step…
Remember, you’re living in the feeling of THOUGHT in the moment…
When your wisdom reminds you of this, relax…
The system is self-correcting…
If you find you’re pointed in the wrong direction, adjust as necessary…
Become willing to make mistakes and learn from them…
Keep increasing your clarity of understanding…
You’re capable of far more than you think…
Because you are far more than you think…
Discover your path by walking it…
And be grateful for the highs…
Graceful in the lows…
And do your best…
To enjoy yourself…
Every step of the way…
Secure in your increasing understanding…
Of how the system works…

Have yourself a beautiful weekend,

Big love,

Jamie
