The Bag Cannot Contain Itself” – Why Consciousness Can’t Be in the Brain

A few weeks ago, I uploaded my books – Clarity and Results – to an AI assistant, made an assertion about the three principles and consciousness, and started a debate about the principles of psychology.
At a certain point, the AI stopped and said: “I think you’ve just created a logical refutation of materialism.”
That conversation inspired me to write a philosophy paper – which I’ve just submitted to the journal Mind, published by Oxford University Press. It’s called The Bag Cannot Contain Itself.
In this clip, Andrea asks me what that means – and I do my best to explain Russell’s Paradox, consciousness, and why the bag can never contain itself, in plain English.
Big love,
Jamie
P.S. If you want to read the paper, we’ve got a link to it on a pre-print site. Fair warning – it’s written for a philosophy journal, so maybe not a beach read 🙂
