JST 244 – The heart of clarity, resilience and wellbeing

Posted on November 28, 2018 by Jamie Smart

Last week I spoke at 2 conferences, the Ignite Conference in St Gallen, Switzerland and the Resilient Young Minds (RYM) Conference in Devon, UK (we’re going to be releasing my 15-minute keynote from the Devon conference on the Get Clarity Podcast later this week, so look out for that). On the surface, my topic for each conference was quite different, but the core of what I shared with each audience was the same, so that’s what this week’s article is about: the heart of clarity, resilience and wellbeing.

So let me set the scene. The audience at Ignite were business school students at St Gallen University, so my topic was ‘The Power of Purpose’ (a subject close to their hearts). At the RYM conference, the audience was a mix of young people and people who work with young people and my topic was ‘A Vision For The Future’, however… an earlier promotional piece for the conference had said I’d be talking about ‘Resolving the roots of youth violence’, so I wanted to make sure I covered that too!

I started with a story: over the summer, I collaborated with Clarity Coaches Dorothy Kolomeisky and Robin Lockhart to create a workshop called ‘Resolving the Roots of Youth Violence’. It was aimed at people who are working with young people (so teachers, social workers, youth workers, people who are working with gangs etc). These people are working with some of the most vulnerable people in the country and so the question we asked ourselves was this:

“If you had someone who’s in a position of influence and you could give them a gift – something that would help them in working with young people – what’s the greatest gift you could give them?”

And so we thought about it and what we came up with was this: that if we could give them a gift it would be to see the resilience, the beauty, the well-being and the clarity that every young person has within them.

So we thought, “Okay, that’s our goal for the workshop; we just want them to be able to see that within the young people they’re working with.”

So then we thought, “Okay so how are we gonna do that?”

We realised that the only way we can help them see the resilience within the young people they’re working with is if they see it within themselves.

Because if they see it for themselves, if they realize it for themselves, then they’ll easily be able to see it in the people they’re working with…

No matter what diagnosis those people may have.

No matter what labels they may have.

No matter what they may think about themselves.

So that’s what we did. We spent the two days of the ‘Resolving the roots of youth violence’ workshop helping create the conditions for the youth workers to have insights and realisations into who they really are – their true nature – so they’d have the ‘eyes’ to see it in the young people they support.

And how did we do that?

By sharing the truth of what we’ve seen for ourselves about our true nature.

The young people at the Ignite conference are passionate about creating a world where businesses are human-centric, so in ‘The Power of Purpose’ I spoke to them about something that’s true for everyone; who you really are.

And it turns out that’s what everyone is searching for in life. To find their way home to their true nature; who you really are.

And that’s my vision of the future; a world where everyone has woken up to the truth of who they really are.

That’s at the core of our new vision, to inspire and educate a generation to experience lives of clarity, resilience and wellbeing.

That’s what we believe: that the most valuable thing a person can discover is the truth of who they really are.

Because who you really are IS the source of clarity, resilience and wellbeing.

In the weeks and months ahead, my team and I are going to be announcing new products and programmes that are fully aligned with our vision of inspiring and educating a generation to experience lives of clarity, resilience and wellbeing.

In the meantime, thank you for sharing this journey with me.

To your increasing clarity!
Big love
