It’s enthusiasm time again. Let me know what you think via twitter at @JamieSmartCom, on my Facebook page, or on my blog here.
1. A quote I’m resonating with this week
This week’s quote comes from the originator of the field sociobiology, E.O. Wilson. (If you haven’t come across it before, sociobiology is “a field of scientific study that is based on the hypothesis that social behaviour has resulted from evolution and attempts to examine and explain social behaviour within that context.” On that basis…
“The genes hold culture on a leash. The leash is very long, but inevitably values will be constrained in accordance with their effects on the human gene pool. The brain is a product of evolution. Human behaviour – like the deepest capacities for emotional response which drive and guide it – is the circuitous technique by which human genetic material has been and will be kept intact.”
2. The world’s greatest female squash player’s got clarity
I was delighted to read this interview with (arguably) the greatest female squash player of all time, Nicol David. When asked which book people would be most surprised to find on her bookshelf, she named The Little Book of Clarity. She says, “I know how important it is to be clear-minded to compete. I found this book especially helpful in bringing clarity to my mind when I was going through the ups and downs of life.” Squash is one of the few sports I love, so I’m particularly delighted by this. 3. This week’s glimpse of the future
This is amazing. The company “Tenfold” (great name) has created folding houses. Stop and think about that for a moment… Folding Houses! The future is now. http://mashable.com/2017/07/11/ten-fold-engineering-foldable-homes/#3Dvf0ZbmNsqj
4. The secrets of peak performance
The link between a clear mind and peak performance is going more mainstream, with the publication of Steven LKotler’s book Stealing Fire. You can read the article here:
5. This week’s 3 minute miracle
The Kings of Leon song “The Bucket” is the epitome of a 3-minute miracle. Listen in wonder and delight. https://youtu.be/kWaFVvVoj4o
That’s it for this week!
Thanks and big love,
