JST 244 – The heart of clarity, resilience and wellbeing

Posted on November 28, 2018 by Jamie Smart

Last week I spoke at 2 conferences, the Ignite Conference in St Gallen, Switzerland and the Resilient Young Minds (RYM) Conference in Devon, UK (we’re going to be releasing my 15-minute keynote from the Devon conference on the Get Clarity Podcast later this week, so look out for that). On the surface, my topic for each conference was quite different, but the core of what I shared with each audience was the same, so that’s what this week’s article is about: the heart of clarity, resilience and wellbeing.

So let me set the scene. The audience at Ignite were business school students at St Gallen University, so my topic was ‘The Power of Purpose’ (a subject close to their hearts). At the RYM conference, the audience was a mix of young people and people who work with young people and my topic was ‘A Vision For The Future’, however… an earlier promotional piece for the conference had said I’d be talking about ‘Resolving the roots of youth violence’, so I wanted to make sure I covered that too!

JST 243 – Finding your source of purpose and direction

Posted on November 20, 2018 by Jamie Smart

“Deeper & more profound than sexuality, deeper than the longing for social power, deeper than the longing for possessions, is a basic & more universal desire in human nature; the desire for an orientation. The right direction.”
– William Sheldon, psychologist

You may already be aware that my team and I have been clarifying our message about who we are as a company and what we do. This is already having an impact on what we spend our time doing and how we do it. One of the things we’ve been looking at is the whole domain of mission, vision and purpose, so in this article, we’re going to be exploring the evolutionary power of purpose.

JST 242 – Liberation in times of change and uncertainty

Posted on November 6, 2018 by Jamie Smart

We’re living in times of big shifts and changes, and many people are struggling with uncertainty and anxiety about the future. In this week’s article, we’re going to explore something about the future (and about your true identity) that may give you cause for optimism and peace in times of upheaval and uncertainty.

I’m going to start by telling you about an unexpected insight I had last week while reading Sydney Banks’ book, The Missing Link. The insight hit me as I read the book’s brief introduction: Read More →

JST 241 – Inspiring and educating a generation

Posted on October 30, 2018 by Jamie Smart

Over the past month, my team and I have been taking some time to sharpen our focus and get clarity on the path ahead. One of the things that’s emerged from that is a new and simplified vision:

“To inspire and educate a generation to experience lives of clarity, resilience and wellbeing.”

Every week brings news headlines pointing to a troubling rise in mental health challenges, particularly for young people. We’re currently facing a humanitarian crisis in mental health, fomented by the collision between the information revolution / digital technology and a simple misunderstanding about how our minds work and who we really are on the inside.

JST 240 – Tolerating Good Feelings (Re-visited)

Posted on October 16, 2018 by Jamie Smart

It is exciting times here at Clarity HQ! we are busy planning and so we are revisiting one of our popular articles ‘Tolerating Good Feelings’. Here it is;

“What could I say to you that would be of value, except that perhaps you seek too much, that as a result of your seeking you cannot find.” Hermann Hesse

How high is your tolerance for feeling good? I often encounter an interesting phenomenon when I first start working with a new client. At some point during our sessions, the client ‘falls out of their thinking’ and into a beautiful feeling of peace, clarity and wellbeing. Later, they often tell me they’re feeling better than they have in ages, or that it’s like a weight has been lifted from their shoulders.

JST 239 – More powerful than TV

Posted on October 2, 2018 by Jamie Smart

Last Sunday, September 30, was International Podcast Day, and it’s so interesting: some of the world’s most popular podcasts now have more listeners than the most popular TV channels, and here’s the thing:

Even though we’re often told that people’s attention span is shrinking in the face of social media, hundreds of millions of people are spending anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours consuming long-form material via podcasts.

Why?

JST 238 – The Only Two Problems You’re Ever Up Against (Re-visited)

Posted on September 25, 2018 by Jamie Smart

“Overthinking: the art of creating problems that aren’t even there.”
Internet meme

I’m currently having a planning week so we are revisiting one of our popular articles from this time last year! ‘The Only Two Problems You’re Ever Up Against’.

It’s now a couple of weeks since I kicked off the Certified Clarity Coach Training 2018. One of the things that really had a big impact for people was when I told them that all my clients arrive with the same two challenges. So I decided to share this excerpt from my Sunday Times bestselling book, RESULTS: Think Less, Achieve More (©2016 Jamie Smart, published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd):

JST 237 – The Freedom Paradox

Posted on September 18, 2018 by Jamie Smart

“God demands nothing less than complete self-surrender as the price for the only real freedom that is worth having. And when a man thus loses himself he immediately finds himself in the service of all that lives. It becomes his delight and his recreation. He is a new man, never weary of spending himself in the service of God’s creation.”
– Gandhi

JST 236 – Mastery, and the power of transformation

Welcome to the final part in this series of articles on the 7 steps to earning your living as a successful professional in any field. Over the past year I’ve been isolating the specific steps involved, and refining them. What’s resulted is a ‘roadmap’, and while the version of it I’ve created is aimed at coaches, therapists, trainers and consultants, with a little creativity, you’ll be able to see how these steps relate to anyone who wants to transition to doing work that involves you being a ‘trusted advisor’ to others (e.g. expert / speaker / professional services etc).
