RESULTS by Jamie Smart

“One man’s meat is another man’s poison.”
Ancient proverb

In this excerpt from my book RESULTS: Think Less, Achieve More (©2016 Jamie Smart), we’re going to be looking at a powerful “value formula”, and how you can use it to be more influential, and get the results that matter to you.

clarity-value-formulaAll over the world, people are creating value and getting rewarded for it. There’s a universal ‘value formula’ that’s used by everyone, whether they realize it or not.

It’s used by companies who want to address new audiences and by churchleaders who want to grow their congregations.

Teachers use it to engage their students and teenagers use it to enlarge their social circles. It’s employed by terrorist groups to attract recruits and by governments looking to change their citizens’ behaviour. The CLARITY® Value Formula has three elements: visibility, value and clarity. The perfect mix of “decadent” and “nourishing”

Posted on December 21, 2013 by Jamie Smart

Oh, the irony! My lovely publishers, Capstone, have just sent me a massive chocolate box from the prestigious chocolatier, Hotel Chocolat, as an early (and incredibly luxurious) Christmas gift. Tragically, I managed to quit sugar a month ago and have managing to steer clear of the deliciously addictive stuff one day at a time. And then this arrives! It's like sending a kilo of pure Bolivian marching powder to a reformed crackhead. And it got me thinking… What if we were to auction this enormous Hotel Chocolat gift to the highest bidder, and give the proceeds to two of my favourite children's charities?

Sky TV Interview – Clarity, Performance and Leadership

Posted on March 14, 2013 by Jamie Smart

Yesterday I was interviewed for 13 minutes on Sky Sports TV, discussing the role that clarity has to play in performance and leadership. While the context of the interview was football and football management, I was careful to point out that these principles apply to every aspect of human endeavour. I hope you admire my restraint in how few times I said “Get Clarity” in the course of the interview 😉

Clarity: the killer app

This blog post is adapted from the introduction of my forthcoming book, Clarity, due to be published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd in the first half of 2013.

“If a pond is clouded with mud, there’s nothing you can do to make the water clear. But if you allow the mud to settle, it will clear on its own, because clarity is the water’s natural state.”

Clarity is your mind’s natural state.

For many years, I’ve been sharing this simple metaphor in workshops and seminars with business leaders, entrepreneurs, professional change-workers and private individuals. As people allow their mud to settle, clarity emerges, and they discover they have what they need for the job at hand.

So what is clarity, and why does it matter? How does clarity work, and why do so many people struggle to find it? Most importantly, how can you find the clarity you need and start benefitting from it?

Classroom, Boardroom, Bedroom: The 3 Reasons People Cheat

Posted on October 14, 2012 by Jamie Smart

“The truly scary thing about undiscovered lies is that they have
a greater capacity to diminish us than exposed ones. ”
– Cheryl Hughes

This week saw champion cyclist Lance Armstrong stripped of his 7 Tour de France victories for the part he apparently played in a doping conspiracy. I was interviewed by Sky TV News to give an insight into the psychology behind cheating. I explained that whether it’s on the cycling track, in the boardroom or in the bedroom, there are only 3 underlying reasons people cheat:

Andrew Strauss: Was the pressure all in his mind?

Posted on September 3, 2012 by Dzidek Sabat

This week saw cricketing legend Andrew Strauss resign as England captain and retire from professional cricket, citing poor performance on the field as the reason. Yet behind his poor form were reports of increasing pressure, both on and off the field. And if pressure was the “cause” of his poor form, where was it coming from and how could he have dealt with it? Perhaps most importantly, what lessons can we all learn from his experience, whether we’re under pressure at work, at home or on the playing field?
